FISHING NEWS
23rd June 2008
Well the last couple of weeks has produced wind, quite a lot of wind in fact which has made fishing out the front hard, standing on top of grassy hill impossible. Thankfully the local rivers have bends and tall trees surrounding them making the fishing comfortable and productive.
The Wharf: Fishing has been quiet over the last couple of weeks, there’s been a few trevally, queenfish and still the odd barra around so some people have been lucky. Local Luke has still been catching his usual trevally, plus good fingermark and one just undersize barra.
Endeavour
River : Is still fishing reasonably welI but local knowledge is always going to help at this time of year. Catching some quality jacks, fingermark into the mid 50cm bracket with the odd barra still hitting the live herring. Evening sessions last week during the full moon produced some good barra for Mark on live herring and mullet strips. Dave Cass got close with one good barra but still not managing to get one in the boat. Lure throwers are getting a few barra and jacks but having to work for them.
Annan
River : Still a few brave anglers venturing down to the mouth to be sand blasted. Trevally, queenies and grunter showing on baits. Shame about the ‘Netter’ turning up again to do his bit for the system!
Lakefield
National Park : Some good barra showing on lures; again no cricket scores but the fish that are being caught are very chunky, healthy specimens that have been feeding very well.
Tip of the week: It still surprises me by how many anglers use sinkers that are to big for the job, balancing your gear to the size of bait, depth of water and speed of current is critical when bites are at a premium. So next time you’re catching nothing change the little things around… you might surprise yourself!
