Lure throwing

lure throwingWhen the conditions and tides are right this method has to be one of the most exciting going. You can equate it to a moving game of darts where the treble 20 is constantly changing and requires the placement of a lure in seemingly impossible positions, to evoke a strike. The more times you hit the 'mark' the more chance you have of raising a Barra from its ambush position. When the hit comes be prepared for 20,000 volts to be transmitted through your line and up your rod arm.

Learn a variety of 'retrieve' styles and how to get the best out of your lures. One thing to remember: you can't go too slow for barra and the longer you can leave your lure in the 'strike zone' the more likely you are to get a solid hook-up. Whether the barra is a 40cm or 1 metre the adrenalin rush can never be described on paper - you have to experience the feeling. Once you've felt the force of an angry barra hitting the lure other fishing techniques pale into insignificance and your life will be changed for ever!

There's no better way to spend a day than aboard 'Gadget' silently moving along by electric motor whilst your guide positions you on the mangroves and snags for your best chance of a fish. You'll be amazed at the wildlife you can see whilst in 'stealth mode'. Turtles, queensland groupers, stingrays, sharks, birds, monitors and the ever present croc. Can fishing get any better?

lure fishingThis style of fishing is generally aimed at the intermediate or advanced angler but if you're a newcomer to the sport we are happy to teach you and have you competent in no time.

It is often a good idea to practise at home in the garden with your rod and a bucket. Position the bucket at a distance and try and cast the lure into the bucket, but remember you have to wield your rod like a tennis raquet and be able to hit the mark from all positions to really put you in with a chance of striking 'Silver'.
